Cameron Smith captures 1st major title; wins the 150th British Open by 1 shot

Cam Smith was 4 strokes back of the lead, and with favorite Rory McIlroy in full flight after rounds of 66-68-66, Smith’s chances, like his physique, were slim. Then Smith unleashed the most powerful weapon which was his putter, reeling in Rory with 5 consecutive birdies. Smith's huge putts came about on the 72nd hole but Cameron Young tied the match with a 15-footer for eagle before Smith nailing the final putt for his 1st major championship. Smith finished with an 8-under-par 64 to shoot 20-under 268, breaking Tiger Woods’ record low score in an Open at St. Andrews by 1 stroke.
